Fix California Challenge

Simply the Basics

The Mission of Simply the Basics is to provide for an individual, organization, or community their most basic needs with dignity so that they can focus on bigger goals. People are often saying, "If only I had X, then I could improve my life."

We simply remove barriers, allowing people to have the opportunity to achieve.

According to Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, people are unable to focus on any needs higher than their current level on the following pyramid. If they are unable to meet needs at the very basic level (food, shelter, clothing, and so forth), they will be incapable of moving up in the pyramid to reach greater goals (job security, sobriety, and self actualization).

We have four Core Programs that contribute to our Mission and provide basic needs for people, organizations, and communities.

A great challenge for people looking for shelter, police officers trying to help individuals on the street, social workers, 311, hotlines, and the community is that programs often have unique guidelines that are difficult to navigate. The time of day, day of the week, location, relationship status, circumstances, age, language, wait lists, and many more elements can affect where a person is able to stay. Our Location Services app will solve this problem by allowing anyone to easily search and access services based on their needs at that given time. We make it simple to find services.

We are building A Marketplace similar in function to Craigslist where individuals or nonprofits can list anything they would like to donate, and nonprofits can simply search to find what they are looking for. Anyone can list items to donate, but only a registered nonprofit can access contact information to coordinate receiving. Organizations are frequently receiving donations, oftentimes these are items that are not necessarily needed. The Marketplace ensures all donations are put to good use.

Our other programs focus on individuals by providing basic needs and education.
